Have you ever found yourself saying “I wish I had more hours in the day”? When we get caught up in the busyness of life, it’s easy for us to wish this, but the truth is, we have more time in the day than we might think.
In part one of our Life Hacks series at Alive Church, I offered some simple math on how to figure out just how much time we really have each day.
There are 168 hours in each week. Up front, that seems like a lot of time! But let’s factor in some of our responsibilities.
Out of those 168 hours, let’s say you’ll spend 60 hours a week on work. Now I understand that this might be more or even less than the time you put in for your work, but we will use this as our approximate work hours.
When you take away those 60 hours from the 168 hours you begin with, you are left with 108 hours per week. Now we must use some of that time to sleep each week. When you get the doctor’s recommended eight hours per day, you take away 56 hours from 108. This leaves us with 52 hours a week.
After you’ve taken away time set aside for working and sleeping, that leaves you with seven and a half hours per day to spend as you choose.
This number may seem surprising…I know that most days, it doesn’t feel like you have over seven hours outside of sleep and responsibilities! But God has given all of us the right amount of time to live the rich and satisfying life He promises us – we just have to remember to use that time to seek Him.
In Mathew 6:33, Jesus tells us, “Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.”
God has given us great capacity to accomplish many things. When we seek Him first, we can accomplish more than we can even imagine (see 1 Corinthians 2:9). In fact, He alone has given us each week, each day, each hour to live the life He has planned for us!
How will you use the time God has given you this week?
In Christ,
Jeff
