“Still In Velvet” is a 12×16″ oil on canvas that I’m just about to take off the easel. I want to live with it a few days before I add the highlights and accents. I painted this piece from a reference I took in Rocky Mountain National Park near the western entrance to the park.

Our family recently spent some time in Ridgeway, Colorado. It’s a beautiful place, but probably unfamiliar to most people. It’s claim to fame? The John Wayne movie True Grit was filmed there. (Love the movie and we had to eat at the True Grit restaurant that is in town – good food!) The whole True
