5 Daily Habits For Success (Part 5), Yield Daily

Finger painted Mona Lisa

Today is the fifth and final day in the Life Palette blog series called 5 D.A.I.L.Y. Habits For Success. We have talked about D-Dream daily, A-Advance daily, I-Initiate daily, L-Learn daily, and finally Y-Yield daily. While the first 4 will make a difference in the success of your life, without applying this one they will never allow you to fully reach your potential as one of God’s masterpieces.

Learning To Yield Daily

In Joshua 3:5 Joshua tells the people of Israel “‘consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.’” (NIV)  To consecrate means to “dedicate” yourself to the one who has created your life to be a masterpiece, His masterpiece. The moment you choose to pick up the brush and paint the canvas of your life is the moment you skew the masterpiece. Imagine taking the Mona Lisa to a kindergarten art class perfecting their finger painting skills and giving them free reign to fix or paint as they saw fit. Da Vinci’s masterpiece—his dream, all his years of work—would be ruined in a moment. We are His masterpiece and as so must yield to Him as the artist of our lives.

I celebrate church and love being able to speak about God, sharing His love and His Word with people on a weekly basis. I believe wholeheartedly with what the writer of Hebrews champions in Hebrews 10:25: “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” Yet to live fully as the masterpiece God designed and desires you to be, you must go far beyond the minimal once-a-week experience where you depend on your pastor to get you through another week. Though this time of worship will add value to your spiritual life; it’s the things you do with consistency every day that determines whether or not you succeed or fail—whether or not you live as a masterpiece or a forgery. Paul teaches in Romans 6:13: “Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.” Yield to the master artist through daily obedience.
