It’s amazing how often we see other living out a bad habit and think to ourselves “we know where that is going to lead” because we’ve seen the results of a that habit lived out and proved over and over in other people’s lives. Yet, we will often take on the same habit with a hope that somehow it will lead us to a different destination.
Let me illustrate with something familiar to us all, eating. Perhaps you see someone who continually makes poor choices when it comes to eating, they always choose to eat junk food. You know that it cannot be good for their health. You may even give them a warning if they are someone you love, telling them they need to eat better and take care of themselves. You are sure they are headed toward a heart attack or other health issues because of their poor eating habits. Yet, often you may make the same poor choices that you warn them about, hoping in vain that it will not lead you to a destination of poor health, that somehow you will be the exception.
The Power Of Habit:
Habit is often thought of as a dirty word because most people generally associate it with a bad habit, but the power of a habit can equally be used for good. The power of a habit is life changing, so it’s important to make sure that it’s changing your life for the better. Every habit is leading to a destination of sorts, an end result. The habits you have developed and are living today will determine the destinations of your tomorrow. Use the power of habit for your good.
Replacing A Bad Habit:
If you are struggling with bad habits that you know are going to lead you to destinations of devastation how do you change them? It’s actually a simply process, perhaps not easy, but simple. You simply replace a bad habit with a good one.
Give It Time:
Studies show that it takes a minimum of 21 days up to 285 days to change a habit. It depends on how ingrained it is in your life. So make a commitment to give yourself a year to truly make a good habit a habit. Don’t give up after a month. Develop a one year plan. It will be worth it, because as you change your habits you are changing your future destinations.
Take some time and consider your habits and the destinations they are leading you to. Which ones do you need to replace with good ones? Remember you are a masterpiece, don’t let bad habits get in the way of you living life as the masterpiece God created you to be. Make a change on your Life Palette today!
