One of our primal needs is to know we are not doing life alone. You are wired to have authentic relationships that add value to your life and add value to others. In Hebrews 10:24 we are encouraged to “think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” (NLT) Healthy, growing relationships are essential to fully develop and live your potential as the masterpiece God created you to be.
The danger of living life without authentic relationships is isolation. Isolation is more than being alone. Everyone needs time alone; some more than others, alone time is the way many people re-energize. Regardless of how much of a loner a person may be, we have an innate need to do life together.
Motivate Others
Authentic relationships are developed with the same principle that all of the universe operates on; sowing and reaping. To begin developing authentic relationships, friendships, do what the Hebrews writers suggest; “think of way to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” This is God’s plan for you to add value to others. The more you add value to others, the more you will discover others want to add value to your life and to be in a healthy growing relationship with you.
Benefits
As with everything God has designed for us to do there are benefits:
- You won’t feel alone and neither will others.
- You will feel value as a person and others will feel more value from you.
- You will feel more respected and others will feel more respect from you.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastics 4:9-12 NIV)
