Your success or failure is based on your ability to make right decisions. No one wants to make bad decisions that lead to failure. Every decision has an element of risk to it. Your life is made up of choices: you win or lose by the way you choose!
When you were born, everything was out of your control. But with each birthday you begin making your own decisions. And with every decision you become more accountable for what happen in your life.
It is a mistake to think that just because someone can make quick decisions, they are great leaders. Making right decisions is what is important! In the Good News Translation of the Bible the writer James says: “A person… unable to make up his mind and undecided in all he does, must not think he will receive anything from the Lord.” (James 1:7-8 GN)
In today’s blog I’m going to give you the first of 6 secrets for making sure that you always make wise decisions.
Get God’s Perspective
Before you do anything else, get God’s perspective. All of us have made stupid decisions that at the time we thought was the best thing to do. Perhaps you had an impression or thought we were being led by intuition, or perhaps it was just heart burn! None of those are great ways to make a decision. You need truth! You need God’s guidance. He is the one who has created you as His masterpiece; you need to have His direction: “Those who trust their own insight are foolish, but anyone who walks in wisdom is safe.” (Prov 28:26 NLT)
If you want to live life as the masterpiece God created you to be, do the things that last. The things that last are God’s plan and His plans are good: “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jer 29:11-12 NLT)
Here are a few tips for getting God’s guidance:
- Read the Bible on a regular basis.
If you are new at this I recommend you read a Proverb a day. There are 31 so you can read through them all within a month. Proverbs is considered the book of wisdom.
- Get wise counseling.
Find a friend who knows and understands the Bible and ask them for wisdom. Notice I said wise counseling. Don’t just find a friend who will tell you what you want. Get someone who will tell you the truth whether you like it or not.
- Pray. Ask God for wisdom.
Here is what Jesus brother says about this: “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.” (James 1:5 NLT)
