The Place of Protection And Provision

ProvisionIn the last few Life Pallet blogs, I have been writing about how you are created to soar: to “soar high on wings like eagles.” (Isaiah 40:31 NLT) But let’s back up a little, lest you think that you are not strong enough or that you do not have what it takes to soar. Let’s look at how God prepares us and provides for us to be able to get to a place where we are mature enough, strong enough and ready to soar.

Up Close And Personal With A Nest

I was climbing with a friend outside of Westcliffe, Colorado, at the base of the Sangre De Cristo mountain range when we came across an eagle’s nest on a cliff face. It wasn’t visible from the ground, but a great surprise during the climb. Once we knew it was there we rerouted and did not disturb the nest or the eagles. It was the first time I had seen an eagle’s nest without having to look through binoculars.

The location of the nest on the side of the cliff is with purpose, and of course it is no secret to the one who created the eagle: “Is it at your command that the eagle rises to the heights to make its nest? It lives on the cliffs, making its home on a distant, rocky crag.” (Job 39:27-28 NLT) The nest is always built in places that cannot be easily accessed for anything or anyone other than the eagle. The eagle is a gifted builder. The few nests that have been found after falling during a storm rarely come apart because the branches and feathers are so skillfully woven together. (Amazingly they have been found to weigh a half a ton!)

In the world of eagles, it is the mother’s job to collect food and feed the baby eaglets. She flies back and forth from a food source and then perching on the edge of the nest to feed the babies one at a time. She has an innate knowledge of which ones she has fed and which she has not. She always feed the eaglets in the same order. In fact, scientist have tested this to see how aware the mother eagle is of her eaglets by rearranging their positions in the nest while the mother was out gathering food. Still, they were always fed and cared for in the same order.

A Picture Of Provision

The picture of the mother eagle providing for the eaglets as she carefully builds a nest for them to protect them and care for them is a picture of how God cares for us as His very own.  Jesus used a similar picture from nature to confirm God’s provision: “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?” (Matthew 6:26 NLT)

God promises you His provision. “God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19, NLT) You are not just out there on your own facing storms and hoping that you can soar, that you can live out your potential. God, your loving heavenly Father, is making sure that you are well fed, so to speak, that you are being nurtured, cared for and protected all with the foreknowledge of His plan for your life to “soar high on wings like eagles”. You need only trust Him and His provision.

While the picture of the mother eagle building the nest and feeding the eaglets is a beautiful picture, from nature, of God’s provision. What the mother eagle does next will shock you! It is a picture of what God does in our lives to help us to soar. (Be sure to check out tomorrow’s Life Palette Blog for “Soaring Lessons”.)
