How To Solve Problems By Being Creative

creative2Know this: in creating you, as His masterpiece, God has given you the creative ability to handle any situation you may find yourself in. Your first thought after reading that first sentence may be “but I’m not creative.” Don’t think that way. Don’t say that about yourself because you are created in the image of God, the creator of all things: “So God created human beings in his own image.” (Genesis 1:27, NLT) It is true that all of us have messed up the pristine masterpiece that God originally designed us as, but He makes it clear that He is working in us to renew us to the original design: His image. “Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.” (Colossians 3:10, NLT, underline is my emphasis)  God is working to renew your thinking about His creative power working in and through you.

You may have a problem that seems insurmountable, at the moment, but you are a perfect candidate for allowing the creative nature of your creator to be renewed in you. The following are 3 actions that will help you to face your problems with the creative power that is part of your make up.

1. Visualize The Solution

Visualization has received a bad rap over the last several years. Yet, the root word for visualization is vision. Vision is a clear picture of a destination you want to arrive at. In fact, in scripture we see that “where there is no vision, the people perish…” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV) In fact, God says of you that He visualized you and your life before you were created: “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” (Psalms 139:16 NLT)

2. Look At What You Have

Creativity is not always making something out of nothing; it is in fact more times than not making something more out of what you already have. God Himself made the earth from nothing, but He also took what He had already made to create humanity. Genesis 2:7 tells us “Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.” (NLT) He is still working this way as He takes the protein we eat each day and turns it into energy for us to live our lives. Look at what you have and consider that you may use it for a solution to your problem.

3. Look For Ways To Create A Combination

Your creative solution to your problem may simply be a combination of something old and something new. One of my favorite candies is the “Reese’s Cup”. (I have a weakness for sweats!) I love the Reese’s commercials where they show chocolate and peanut butter accidently being combined, which led to the discovery of the “Resse’s Cup”. I’m pretty sure that’s not the way it really happened. Regardless of the how, I’m forever grateful someone combined the two to come up with such a perfect candy treat. The solution to your problem may simply need the combination of what you already have available to you.

Solving problems with creativity is not reserved for the creative genius. It is the result of you tapping into the power of God’s Spirit working in you. In tomorrow’s blog we will look as some practical ways to apply today’s blog with “How To Win Victory Over Your Difficulties”.
