What is it that spills out of your life? What is it that leaks out of you when no one is looking? What leaks out when you are in your darkest moments? You are created as a masterpiece, and as so, one of the elements used to create you is hope. In scripture, Paul tells us that we can overflow with hope: “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit”  (Romans 15:13, NLT). To overflow with something is to have that thing in excess, it is to have that thing in abundance, or in this case, the word that Paul uses is to have hope in super abundance.

Can’t Live Without It

There are many things in life that we can live without: a nicer home or car and the list goes on and on…However, hope is something that we just cannot live without. The thing about it is that it is not something that we contrive or work up within ourselves. Hope does not come from our wishes or desires. Hope comes from God. In fact, the Bible says that He is our hope – “My hope is in You” (Psalm 39:7).  Real hope is a firm assurance about things that are both seen and the things that are still in our future.

Hope Is A By-Product

Hope is a byproduct of God working in our lives as the Master Artist. It is one of the many benefits of living life as the masterpiece God created you to be. It is one of the distinguishing characteristics of God’s masterpieces. It resides within us. It does not come from your senses or experiences, it is a gift given to you. Hope gives you joy!

If you are feeling hopeless, take some time and meditate on this scripture and this powerful truth. Ask God to help you to trust in Him and submit to His power so that you will overflow with hope!  We can, and we should overflow with hope every moment of our lives. It is a privilege of being a follower of Jesus.
