2 Things Necessary To Live Your Purpose

PurposeYou have a God-given purpose: “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10) Paul states it very clearly – your purpose is to live as His masterpiece. As you do, there are specific “good things” He has for you to do.

With Joshua as our example, there are 2 things you must do to assure that you live out your God-given purpose.

1. Tap Into His Presence:

Joshua had the promise of God’s presence in his life to encourage him toward his purpose: No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses.” (Joshua 1:5) Some of Jesus’ last words to the disciples assure us of the promise of His presence in our lives, as well.  “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20) Rely on His presence daily to ensure that the dream and purpose He’s given you never dies. Tap into His presence through praying daily and reading His Word daily. Ask Him to empower you to clearly see the dream and vision He has for you.

2. Trust In His Promise:

Joshua received the promise of God’s faithfulness. “I will not fail you or abandon you.” (Joshua 1:5) We see throughout Scripture that God is our faithful Heavenly Father. Paul says it this way in 2 Thessalonians 3:3: “But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.” God was faithful to the cause of getting Joshua and the children of Israel into the Promised Land, and He is faithful to the cause of you being and living as His masterpiece. God does not let His promises fail. Yet recall Joshua had one thing required of him:  “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9) The enemy would like nothing more than to discourage you and keep you from living the purpose God has for you. The enemy wants to convince you to give in to weakness and give up.

Words Of Encouragement

Paul encourages you in the same way God did Joshua: “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:10-12) Be strong. Stand firm. Dream the dream God has for you. As you do, it will lead to living consistently as the masterpiece God created you to be.

Next Step

Take time today to tap into God’s presence with prayer and trust in His promise by making this verse personal: “For (I am) God’s masterpiece. He has created (me) anew in Christ Jesus, so (I) can do the good things he planned (me) long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10)
