Soaring In Character: When You Feel Pushed By God

eagleThis week, on the Life Palette blog, I’ve been writing about how you are created to “soar” based on Isaiah 40:31: “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles…” (NLT) While it’s not imperative that you have read all of the blogs from this week to understand today’s blog, “When You Feel Pushed By God”, I do encourage you to check them out and to share them with friends, they will be glad you did.

It’s Shocking

I ended yesterday’s blog with these words: While the picture of the mother eagle building the nest and feeding the eaglets is a beautiful picture from nature of God’s provision. What the mother eagle does next will shock you! It is a picture of what God does in our lives to help us to soar.”

The shocking thing she does? Once an eaglet is mature enough to take flight, the mother eagle will push them out of the nest. The eaglet will fall through the air, mom swoops down and catches them on her back to save them from death.  She takes them back to the nest and begins the process all over again. Why? Because eagles are made to soar. Their potential is not found in the comfort and security of the nest, it is found and unleashed in soaring through the sky.

Even More Shocking

It gets even more shocking. Once all of the eaglets have learned to use their wings to soar, the mother will return to the nest and begin to take it apart. She knows that they will never fulfill their potential while remaining in the nest.

Scripture tells us all about this process from nature: “He was like an eagle hovering over its nest, overshadowing its young, Then spreading its wings, lifting them into the air, teaching them to fly.” (Deuteronomy 32:11, NLT)

God Cares More About Your Character Than Your Comfort

It’s a picture of God’s passion for you to mature and live in your potential. There are times when it may feel like He tearing apart your nest of comfort and security. It may feel confusing, but He knows and sees something in you that only He can see. He sees what it takes for you to soar. He cares more about you developing your full potential that He placed you on this earth. He wants to see you soar!

There is another lesson that is critical for you to learn from the eagle if you are to soar the way God intended you to. It is how they live in renewal. Be sure to check out tomorrow’s Life Palette post on living in renewal.
