ART: “View On The Edge”, 20×20″ Oil On Canvas
Just finished this painting from Rocky Mountain National Park, “View On The Edge” a 20×20″ oil on canvas. Rocky Mountain National Park is one of my favorite places to go and to paint, I would never pass up an opportunity to be in the park and I definitely want my plein air box and brushes while there. I was drawn to this composition because of the sunlit mountain. The day I took the reference photo for this piece the clouds were broken giving a lot of interesting shadows on the Rockies. It was also an amazing day for spotting wildlife. We saw an incredible amount of moose (I have a moose painting in the works, although the setting is the Tetons) Rocky Mountain Bighorns, Elk, A Wolf (only found on the western side of the park) Marmot and a Fox – my kind of day! It was mid summer and snow was falling on the top of the pass. I have several other compositions that I am working on from that trip, but also feeling the need to go back and get more reference material!!!
