Are you ready to make change in your life to live so that you can achieve your full potential? Most of us don’t like change. But significant change is the key to moving toward a more productive life. Not change for the sake of change but positive significant change on what you want and know you can be. A masterpiece!
The norm is to focus on the negative to try to make a change. If you have ever tried to lose weight, gone on a diet, you know that the more you focus on what you are not going to eat, the more you want it. The more you try to avoid the thought the more you give life to it in your mind. Let me illustrate this: don’t think about a lion running across the savannah chasing a zebra. So, how did you do? Did you not think about it or did you picture it as you read?
Change Your Focus
Instead, the positive significant change necessary to achieve your goal would be to focus on how much better you will feel when you have lost the weight and gotten healthy, how you will look, and how your life will change. It’s called vision. And we underestimate the power of vision dramatically when it comes to living as masterpieces. You must see it and focus on the end result that you know God has created you to be – feel it – believe it.
Positive significant change happens when you focus on what you want rather than what you don’t want. Is this a Biblical concept? You bet. Paul said that you are to be “transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will know what God’s will is, His good, pleasing and perfect will.” You are transformed by thinking and focusing on what you want to do and be and what God wants you to do and be, not by focusing on what you don’t want to do or be.
This is a simple way of laying out a map for your mind to follow. Think about it for a moment; if you live today according to what you are thinking where will you end up at the end of the day? If you said that you are just going with the flow and whatever happens – happens – then what does it matter? If you don’t know where you are going why does it matter what time it is or what day it is? You are just coasting at that point, letting others dictate your destination. But that is not you. If you are reading this blog, Life Palette, then you are someone whose intent is to end up somewhere on purpose today and for the rest of your life.
Here are 3 simple things you can do to make positive significant change toward living your potential TODAY:
1. Replace 1 Negative Thought Pattern Today
Being transformed takes time. If you are in the habit of negative thinking that is leading down a path toward a destination that you don’t desire, tackle these thoughts one at a time. Replace that one negative thought today with a positive one. What is it that you are going to replace that negative thought with? Write it down, and every time you are tempted to think the wrong thought today, look at what you are replacing it with and intentionally make the decision to think positive significant change in your thought life.
2. Decide To Do One New Positive Behavior Today
Being transformed is like eating an elephant, you do it one bite at a time. What is one bite you can take today to move toward reaching and living your potential? It may be a phone call you need to make, begin exercising (you don’t start by running 5 miles, you may just walk a half a mile today) or it may be simply writing down the destination you have in mind for life. Don’t let fears of failure stop you, begin the journey.
3. Tell Someone
Find someone who cares about you and that you trust. Tell them the simple steps you want to take and why. Ask them to help you by holding you accountable. You may ask something like this: “If you hear me speaking that negative thing rather than the positive significant change I want to speak, point it out to me. Tell me I’m supposed to be speaking and thinking…” Sounds crazy, but others will be more aware and help you be more aware. It’s called accountability. Warning: It must be someone who cares about you and that you trust, someone who believes in your potential as the masterpiece God created you to be.
Take action today, right now! Don’t put it off. When you get to the end of today you can end up at a destination that you have chosen rather than letting others chose for you. You can fulfill and live the potential waiting inside of you that wants to be released today – do this day after day and soon you will experience the positive significant change that leads to living life as a masterpiece.
