Who is someone that you would say has had a great impact on your life? All of us have people who have affected our lives’. I remember my first piano teacher who told me I had talent, Steve Adams; I fell in love with music and developed a passion for writing both songs and words. Ultimately, his influence had a big impact on me when I wrote Life Palette. In sports, several coaches taught me about discipline, not giving up and working through the pain. In college, Professor Larry Fine gave me a passion for the Bible. And the list goes on and on.
I’m sure there are people who have you on their list, you may not even be aware. You said or did something just when they needed it most and their lives changed. You had influence in their lives. In other words you led. Everyone leads (has influence) at one point or another in their lives. Leadership affects us daily, for better or for worse. Leadership happens constantly in and through us, whether we like it or not, whether we choose to be leaders (influencers) or not. To embrace and own your influence is to succeed, to live on purpose.
Embrace Your Leadership (Influence)
Take a moment and name one arena of life that does not need great leaders. You can’t, because every life arena needs leadership. Therefore, regardless of the arena you currently are working/living in, there is a need for great leadership. In addition, God has created you to lead. Your influence may not be as large as others you look at as leaders, but your arena of life is the area where God wants to use you as His masterpiece through the influence you have. You need to embrace that fact. As you do, you will be amazed at the fulfillment you experience. You will discover a new vigor and enthusiasm for living. You will grow beyond what you have ever dreamed in all areas of your life. You will experience a life lived as a masterpiece, God’s masterpiece.
Once you embrace the fact that you have influence, that you are a leader in some sphere of your life, you will face challenges. Understanding this is part of your God-given purpose, as His masterpiece, which will help you to navigate the challenges. Moreover, the rewards of seeing others grow is icing on the cake compared to the growth and fulfillment you will experience.
I’ve spent my life in leadership. I embraced it at a very young age. I’m committed to continuing to grow as a leader and now to pass on all that I can to the next generation of leaders. You never know when you will end up on someone’s list because at a strategic point in time in their life you had influence and they were transformed. The world is waiting for leaders like you who will embrace leadership and honor those who have the privilege of influencing by adding value to their lives.
