How To Have More Focus, Creativity And Peace

peaceAs the title suggests focus, creativity and peace, is found in doing one thing. It may shock and surprise you. It’s something you did when you were a kid, but somewhere along the line it felt a little too childish and most adults give it up. I want to suggest for the sake of your focus, creativity and peace of mind that you pick it back up, and many people are. What is it? Coloring. Amazing, but studies show that it’s true for adults who color.

The Phenomenon

The phenomenon of adult coloring has become a multimillion-dollar publishing industry. The good news is that the benefits are fantastic! Do an Amazon search and you will find thousands of results. My own adult kids are diving into this full force and will tell you that they love it and find it incredible cathartic.

Positive Impact

It’s not a big surprise that something creative and artistic would have a positive impact on you mentally, physically and spiritually. It’s well known that the arts have a significant positive impact on our world. Psychiatrist Carl Jung often prescribed coloring to his patients and said this about coloring geometric figures: “have an intuitive, irrational character and, through their symbolical content, exert a retroactive influence on the unconscious. They therefore possess a ‘magical’ significance, like icons, whose possible efficacy was never consciously felt by the patient.”

Dr. Jung’s practice of having patients color continues today with other psychologists and has led to a very important form of rehabilitation: art therapy. There are many benefits including the three mentioned in the title of this blog. You will have more focus, creativity and peace of mind at heart.

So, the next time you are feeling a little stressed, or need a breakthrough on your thinking, can’t seem to mustard the focus you need, take out a coloring book. Get out your colored pencils or crayons and get back to the roots of your childhood!
