When you face your fear with faith, you will live in freedom. However, the idea of facing your fears may give you great tension. When you dream of unleashing your potential and living life as the masterpiece God created you to be, it excites you and you want to live in freedom! However, facing fear can be a daunting task. How do you press beyond the tension that fear brings to win and live in freedom?
Don’t allow fear to dominate your thoughts and actions
You have too much at stake. There are too many opportunities that will be missed if fear is allowed to reign. You were not created to be fearful. You were created to live in power, love, and self-discipline: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timoth 1:7 NLT)
Decide that you will deliberately face your fears with faith.
You must make it a lifestyle to face your fears with faith. As you recognize that fear keeps you from being all God created you to be, you should get upset and angry at fear. You will need to prayerfully and deliberately face your fears with faith.
I love the acrostic for F.E.A.R. False Evidence Appearing Real. Do you remember when you were a kid and you were convinced that there was a monster under your bed? Although there was never a monster, the fact that you felt it and believed it meant your emotional and physical response were the same as if there really were a monster. That is fear. Fear is working to make you believe that false evidence is real. The truth is, what God says about you is real. So make the decision that you are always going to deliberately face your fears with faith. This will lead to freedom!
Here’s How:
1. Focus On God Rather Than Fear
Fear is about self. Faith is about God. Fear and faith cannot cohabitate.
2. Give All Your Fears To God
Regardless of how driven by fear you are or have been in the past, God wants to set you free of all fear. “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you” (1 Peter 5:7 NLT)
Most people don’t get up in the morning and say “today I am going to let fear rule my life.” Yet it happens. Why? Because it is the natural course of life when we have not consciously chosen to let faith rule our lives. When you identify your fear, you have identified your master. Now you get to choose: are you willing to let that fear continue to be the master of your life? Or are you going to live life as the masterpiece you were created to be?
Imagine living a fearless life, a life of freedom, making the most of every opportunity that God brings your way. When you face your fear with faith, you will live in freedom.
Next Step:
Make a decision today that you are going to face your fear with faith. Make this your prayer: God today I am going to focus on you rather than ______________(name your fear). Ask Him to help you to face it with faith. He will! He wants to! He created you to!
